My teaching is process-orientated , that is, I value the process of learning rather than just the outcome. I believe in teaching music, not just the mechanics of playing the piano and to this end I aim to help students find enjoyment in music-making by learning a range of skills including music theory, music appreciation, sight-reading, aural skills, composition and improvisation.

The most important goal is teaching the student how to learn; the aim is not just to play the piano but to experience music as part of a wider education, and to encourage initiative and self-direction.

I believe in treating each student as an individual, and therefore I
adopt a varied and flexible approach to the curriculum.

The key to learning is motivation, and I aim to help the student achieve self-motivation by demonstrating the range of possibilities.

Music should be fun, but also satisfying and worthwhile in the long term. It should involve exploration, discovery and creativity
